Brigham Allen, then President of the Class of 1929, called upon one member of the classes of 1930, 1931, and 1932 and entrusted them with the task of designing a ring that the Institute Committee would ultimately approve as the Standard Technology Ring. Head RO kinda grinned & said "Well, you are not allowed to shoot rapid fire".The Massachusetts Institute of Technology Brass Rat tradition was born in the spring of 1929. I suppose I'm not allowed to shoot AR15's either" I looked at head RO & replied "I am already not liking what I hear. Toolarge started to stammer & said "oh yeah, I suppose that is okay" You can recover your own brass but you are not to pick up any other brass left behind" He quickly spoke up and said "That is not correct. Just so happens the head RO was sitting next to me. I am not leaving my hand prep'd bench rest brass behind for any one". I began to push myself away from the table and said "Who do I talk to about getting my money back. I was at new member orientation when the club treasurer spoke up and said "ALL fired brass belongs to the club so we can help pay expenses." This guy was so large I seriously doubt he was actually able to bend over and pick it up anyway. On the other side of the fence, my dear wife bought me as a Christmas gift a membership at the oldest gun club in Michigan when we moved downstate. I don't pick up brass unless I have the range to myself.

After that, I made it a point never to get stuck on that guy's squad ever again. Duder hemmed and hawed and sulked back to his range bag. Anyone that didn't help got their scoresheets lost unless there were extenuating circumstances. Match director had a standing policy that last stage your squad shot, your squad tore it down. Get to the last stage of the day, guy comes up and asks to shoot first so he could leave early. And no damn young whipper snapper was gonna tell him what to do. didn't matter what it was, he was snagging it up.ĭidn't hardly help paste or reset, just constantly picking up brass. One guy thought that since he had his M/GM/whatever card it didn't apply and he damn near crashed into the scorekeeper a few times with his damn little brass picker upper. Was RO'ing a squad at a local USPSA match and went through the normal spiel about helping to reset/paste and that if people wanted to snag brass, there was plenty of opportunities for that after the match. Once again I tell him to cough up my shit.įinally figured out his ass doesn't get up early so if I'm there and done before 11 I won't have to deal with these antics. There this asshole is playing hungry hippos getting every piece he can. I start in shooting a 10mm (Glock 40), do a pretty good job of keeping most of the brass in my little shooting lane table but some slip away. Gave him the eye and said please don't take my shit anymore, he walked away defeated.ĭidn't stop him for long though, out there a different time shooting pistols, same motherfucker hovering these college kids picking up their 9mm that is all over the damn place. Opens the bag, just looking at the top of the bag I could tell I was the only guy there shooting 7MM RUM and pulled my cases out.

Tells me I'm free to look but it'll be had to find or tell if its mine with all the other shit in there. I called bullshit, he had some of my brass in there and I wanted it back. Tries telling me he didn't take anything and that he was only coming over to ask me if he could. He had only gotten 3-4 of about 10 casing that were on the ground so I called him straight out on it.

Pick my head up to see said "eyeballing guy" scooting on over to pick up my brass, he was trying to be sly and not let it clink as it hit his baggy full of shit. Start shooting 5 round groups (rifle) and just let the brass drop off the table as I maintain target and concentration. Noticed a guy down on the end of the pistol lanes just eyeballing everyone as they shot.

Someone had a thread on a guy taking cans out of the yard, I just want to hear good Brass Rat stories now.Īlways shot on my own property till I moved to MO about a year ago, at that time I would go out to a local MDC range and plink.Ĭouple guys there shooting one mid-afternoon but they all seemed okay, open my cases and set everything up.
